A Little About Me

It’s been a few weeks, I got a little off track and off our normal rhythm.  We each had our round of colds, some of us bounced back faster than others.  Or well, the kids and hubby bounced back faster than I did.

I know there are some new faces to my blog and I had taken some time off from writing, so I want to share a little about me and introduce myself.

Hi and welcome!  I’m Liz, the face behind the blog and Heart Roots.  I live in Minnesota with my hubby and 2 boys.  I’ve been in Minnesota for almost 20 years, though I do have 4 extra years in the state from going to college here as well.  I grew up in Wisconsin and moved to Minnesota after I got married.

First up, my hubby.  He and I have been together for nearly 30 years…I’m 43…you can do the math on when we first started dating.  So yes, that makes us high school sweethearts, yes we went through the awkward teenage years together, and even had some long distance time in there too.  We have been married for almost 20 years, this coming Summer.

Our family began to grown in 2011.  We have three kids: 1 girl and 2 boys.  Our daughter, we lost at 17 weeks pregnant and know she is in the arms of Jesus.  She still is with us each day and a part of our family.  She shows up through dragonflies.  I have two sons, who at the time of this post are 9 and almost 12.

In my free time I like to be outside when the weather is nice, read, write, be creative.  I’m a planner and organizer by nature, which is both a strength and weakness.

I got into writing after our miscarriage while opening up about it all.  From the grief to the new path to pregnancy after loss I opened my heart and shared my journey.  After my first son was born, my writing shifted to more things on being a mom and parenting.  As time has gone by, my writing has shifted again encompassing more all aspects of life and this journey we are on.

We are a homeschool, stay at home mom, self employed family.  After our first pregnancy ended in loss, I wanted to become a stay-at-home mom after that if possible once we had more kids.  So, after my first son was born, I left teaching and shifted my direction, becoming a stay at home mom.  Yes, even though I was a teacher, we decided homeschool was the path for us to take.  We looked into our options when the time rolled around and decided on what we thought would be best for our kids.  We are in our seventh year of homeschooling.  The self employment came back in 2020 when my hubby switched from a 40 hour day time out of the house job to running the business he had started on the side as full time.  About a year ago, that business began to shift and now we are building a new business and it is one that we all participate in, albeit hubby is the main one and the rest of us help on the side.

After many years of being out the workforce, except for occasionally helping my hubby with the businesses, I’m kind of back in it again.  This school year brought some shifts and some new opportunities.  With those opportunities I was given the chance to help out in a Kindergarten room  as a teacher’s assistance once a week at the co-op we go to.  One day a week we pick up friends and head out on adventures and in some ways I’ve kind of been like a nanny.  I’m also leading a small group of 6th graders for youth group once a week at our church.

My faith journey is ever growing as I grow and change.  Where once I didn’t have much faith, I am now leaning more and more into it each day.  Keep an eye out down the road for my faith story.  I will post about it and go more into where it was and where it is now.

I’d love to get to know you  better.  Drop a comment below or send a message and share a little bit about you.  I look forward to getting to know you.

I hope and pray that wherever you are on this journey you know you are not alone, but instead surrounded with love and grace.

Until next time,

~ Liz
