New Year, New Adventures

We recently moved into 2025 on the calendar, but the new year, new adventures I’m talking about this time around are the ones that began at the start of the 2024/25 school year. If you are new around here, we homeschool and have been for the past 6 years. I will share in a future post about why we made that decision and what we do, but for now, a new school year.

While we don’t have a specific start date and end date for the school year, we do kind of follow the activities we are involved in. So for us, that means the day after Labor Day is the “first” day of school and the “last” day of school is the Friday before Memorial Day.

As far as age goes, my oldest is a 6th grader this year and my youngest is a 3rd grader. Our biggest change was beginning a new co-op opportunity. My oldest wanted to be a part of some classes where he could have more educational learning and I wanted to find a place where they could have some more variety in opportunities that we couldn’t necessarily do at home and building community. We’ve been enjoying the once a week opportunities it has brought so far.

The other big adventure is my oldest switching from Sunday School classes to Middle School Youth Group and serving in the church. His faith is growing as he is diving each week. Middle School seems to be a big transition year and having these weekly opportunities has helped him make these shifts a little easier.

While both things have been a transition, we’ve already learned a lot, I can see so much growth in both my kids.

And with those two shifts, I have shifted too. I am back in a classroom again, helping as a teacher’s assistant in a Kindergarten room for a few hours each week. I stepped out of my comfort zone and jumped in giving being a youth leader a try. Each week I am leading a small group of 6th grade girls at our church. Both opportunities have brought back some familiarity, challenges, and learning.

Every year we are faced changes and challenges, but we are also faced with adventures. Sometimes we fail and we fall, sometimes we rise up, stronger. It is when we step out of comfort zone that we grow the most and learn the most.

So what new adventures have you had? What new adventures are ahead for you?

I hope and pray that whatever adventures you go on, know that you are not alone in them. Some days will easy, some will be hard, but through them all you are surrounded with those who are walking alongside you.

Until next time,

~ Liz
