It\’s that time of year, back to school!
This year, for many, will look different. We are headed into our fourth year of homeschooling. While we school all year long because it is infused in our day to day, we typically start our year in September after Labor Day.
Even though we haven\’t passed Labor Day yet, we decided to begin our school year this week. We were all in need of a routine and schedule, so I spent last weekend figuring things out and got the schedule going this week.
We keep it simple and focus on one subject each day, then leave room for other subject areas and adventures for the rest of the day.
There is always a chance to learn and grow in whatever you do around you. We take that opportunity as often as we can. Sometimes we take our learning and school on the road. In the car I will put sight words, letter of the week, or number of the week. This year I have brain quest cards for each kiddo. That way while waiting or riding in the car it is something they can do to pass the time.
We will be using some of the same curriculum as we have in the past, like Reading Eggs and Mathseeds, but I am adding in spelling and writing, as well as workbooks.
No matter how you decide to do school for your kids, be open and available. Walk through this with them and let them take the lead when you can. Even as a parent we can still learn along with them.
Here\’s to another school year! I wish you the best of luck in your studies and adventures this year!
